A very popular timeshare exchange is to use your network points and trade them in on a cruise. If you own a timeshare and are part of a timeshare network, this is an easy process that requires knowing where you would like to go for a cruise. However, if you are not part of a timeshare network you will need to follow a different process. If you are looking to do a timeshare exchange for a week of your stay for a cruise, here are the steps to take.
Tools and Materials Needed
- Timeshare Network
- Internet Access
Step 1: Contact Your Timeshare Representative
A network like Resort Condominiums International (RCI) specializes in timeshares around the world. They also have a points system where you can use them for several different incentives. One of these incentives is to trade your timeshare week for one aboard a major cruise line. To start the process you simply contact your representative. However, you must have timeshare through them and be a part of the membership.
Step 2: Check Your Points
Go online and check the total number of points you have accrued while you have owned your timeshare. The amount of points will be determined by the length of time you have owned the timeshare, how many weeks you have used, location of unit and its size. The points must be in your account for more than 90 days in order for you to have 100% use of them.
Step 3: Convert Points for Cruise
Once you know how many points you have accrued through your membership, you can then convert your owned weeks into your points account. You can do this through your online account or when you talk to your network representative. These points are going to be what you use for your cruise timeshare.
Step 4: Choose Your Cruise
Now that you have made your formal request, and you have converted your accrued timeshare points, you can now choose your cruise. Unlike exchanging your timeshare for the same week, you can choose whichever week you would like to go. Contact the travel department of your network and tell them which cruise line, date and destination you would like to exchange for.
Step 5: Purchase More Points
If you need to, you may also purchase more points for a set fee. If you do not need any more points, then the points you converted for the timeshare exchange will now to removed from your account and confirmation of your cruise will be sent within 24 hours.
Step 6: Enjoy Your Cruise Timeshare
Now that you have completed the conversion of your timeshare points you will be able to take your cruise vacation. Your travel documents will be sent to you before your departure. The great thing about this timeshare exchange is that you do not have to give up your timeshare. You will be able to continue on in the next year providing your renew your week's ownership.
Step 7: Straight Exchange
If you are not a member of a network like RCI, you can still
exchange your timeshare for a cruise. Spend some time looking at
classified listings for people who want to sell or trade their cruise
tickets. If it coincides with your timeshare week, then you can do a
straight exchange for the two.
